Overview

Road Surfacing in Camberley

London Tar handles road surfacing in Camberley, covering the town and the whole of Surrey besides.

Most surfaces are only lightly loaded, but a road is driven on constantly, often by heavy vehicles. That is why the sub-base and the depth of construction are the priority on every private, estate and access road London Tar builds or resurfaces in Camberley and around Surrey. The specification follows the traffic, and line marking is included wherever your road needs it.

Alongside new construction, worn roads showing cracks, ravelling or potholes can be overlaid or resurfaced. Where an estate stays occupied during the work, it is phased to leave access open as far as possible. Kerbing, channels and lining are co-ordinated with the surfacing, so the road is handed back complete and compliant rather than with just a new top on it.

How much does road surfacing cost?

Each quote is based on a free site survey of your road. What affects the cost most:

  • How much road there is, in length and width
  • Whether cars, vans or HGVs use it
  • The existing base, if it is being resurfaced
  • Kerbing, drainage and marking work

FAQs

Road Surfacing FAQs

Do you resurface roads on occupied estates?

Yes. On an occupied estate, the work is planned in phases so that occupiers and delivery vehicles can still get through wherever possible. The programme arrives with the quote, so you can warn tenants and rearrange deliveries before work starts. Freshly laid sections are usually back in use a day or two after laying, which keeps each closure short.

Can you deal with drainage problems at the same time?

Yes. Standing water is best tackled while the road is open, by installing gullies and channels and setting the falls correctly. Often it is the falls, not the number of gullies, that cause water to sit. Any covers in the road surface should be rated for the load of the heaviest vehicles likely to use it.

Do you install speed bumps and traffic calming?

Yes, speed bumps can be added at the same time, and so can ramps, bollards and give-way markings. The Road Humps Regulations 1999 deal with humps in a highway; on private land the owner makes the call, and those rules simply offer a guide. Supplier guidance suggests signs alongside, and it is sensible to agree the scheme with occupiers before anything is built, particularly where HGVs use the road.

Do you handle the kerbing and channels too?

Yes. Edge kerbs and channels, with the drainage that goes with them, are laid by the same crew that surfaces the road. For a business park or school site that means fewer trades on site and a road that comes back complete. It also lets the kerb heights and channel falls be set to suit the new surface, rather than worked around afterwards.

How long does a private road resurface take?

You will know before anything starts, because a clear programme is issued with the quote once the road has been surveyed. Its length, and whether it needs rebuilding or an overlay, are what decide it. On a site that stays open, the work is phased to keep access open wherever possible, and new tarmac is normally fit for traffic in 24 to 48 hours.

Who is responsible for resurfacing a private estate or business park road?

If the council does not maintain it, the road is private, and the owner, or a management company acting for the owners, usually bears the cost. Surrey County Council says it does not maintain private roads. You can confirm the status on the Surrey Interactive Map, where unadopted roads are shown in white on the publicly maintained roads layer. Check the title and leases, with a solicitor, for who pays.

Is it worth bringing our road up to adoptable standard so the council takes it on?

For most existing roads it is a big step. Adoption standards usually call for kerbs, footways, surface water sewers, gullies and lighting, not only a fresh surface. Surrey County Council does not normally adopt existing roads but will help owners who meet the full cost, using Manual for Streets as the standard and recommending independent advice. The council decides. Many site owners instead resurface to a solid private specification.

Can our road just be overlaid, or does it need rebuilding?

If the base is sound, an overlay can work; if it is not, rebuilding is the safer answer. Look for ruts, sinking, and cracking that comes back after patches, which are signs of a failing base. Overlaying that kind of road typically fails before its time. At the survey, levels at kerbs, drains, ironwork and entrances are also checked, since an overlay raises the surface.

How much does it cost to resurface a private road in Camberley?

Prices are set road by road after a free site survey in Camberley. What drives them is the length and width, the traffic it takes, the state of the existing base, and whether you need kerbing, drainage or new lines. An overlay and a rebuild are very different jobs. You receive an itemised written quote that owners and agents can review.

How long should a resurfaced private road last?

Council lifespans give a guide: Kent County Council puts surface dressing and micro asphalt at up to 10 years, and resurfacing that takes out worn layers at 15 years or more. With public roads renewed only once every 97 years on average (ALARM 2026), private owners should budget ahead. Thin construction, poor compaction, standing water and heavy traffic all wear a road out sooner.

What should a private road quote include so the job isn't skimped?

Detail. The quote should state overlay or rebuild, sub-base depth, each layer's thickness, the drainage and kerb work, how levels and ironwork will be dealt with, staged payments and clear-up. Without those in writing, it is hard to show later that something was skimped. Retentions only work if the contract includes them. Be wary of cold callers offering leftover tarmac for cash.
